Menopause does not mean your body has lost its ability to become stronger.
A major 2026 review examined 126 studies involving more than 4,000 women—about two-thirds of whom were postmenopausal. The finding was encouraging: resistance training improved strength and body composition across women’s adult lives.
Women after menopause are not too old, too late or automatically too fragile to progress. Training may need to reflect your current fitness level, recovery, symptoms, joints and health history—but it should still challenge you appropriately and advance over time.
Strength after menopause supports more than appearance. It helps preserve your ability to climb stairs, carry groceries, maintain balance, move confidently and remain independent.
You are still trainable. You are still capable. And you can still become stronger.
